"Scarred old slaver know he's doin alright.
Hear him whip the women just around midnight.
Ah brown sugar how come you taste so good
(a-ha) brown sugar, just like a young girl should"

So I recently learned from the Keith Richards autobiography that the correct lyric is actually not "scarred old slaver" but instead "Skydog slaver", which is a reference to a nickname of Duane Allman.

This changes everything.

I still think it should be banned.

I think Brown Eyed Girl should be banned, if only to make people play something else when they step up to a jukebox with Van on their mind. It's either that or Moondance. You'd think the guy only wrote two songs.

Gimme some Jackie Wilson Said. Gimme some Vanlose Stairway.

When my son was little he would often mis-hear lyrics. I remember him singing "You're my one-eyed girl" which just cracked me up.

To me, Van Morrison sounds like a doggy toy being stepped on repeatedly, or chewed upon by a high-strung Chihuaha.

What is that infernal adenoidal squeaking?

Heh.

The ONLY good thing about the Bush Jr presidency was having Laura Bush rather than Tipper Gore as First Lady. Something about a woman who worked for human rights, especially women's rights, in places like Afganistan and Burma, vs. someone who worked to ban certain lyrics.

Whenever I see this thread title it reminds me of a grammatical quirk (southern, maybe? or eastern?): "Brown Sugar" needs banned!

I've heard that from Ohioans.

And there's this related thread.

I didn't think so. Maybe I was supposed to assume it was bogus.

I saw Frank Zappa at the height of his tiff with Tipper over parental warnings on records. Her group, the PMRC, was coming down hard on artists like Frank and actually had him banned from performing at George Mason University. Prior to his second set that evening, Zappa had a contest to spell out what PMRS stood for. The winner: Pre Menstrual Republican Cocksuckers....he was light years ahead of his time!

Speaking of the PMRC, I found a repress of this classic EP a couple years back.

Wikipedia tells me the original version had Tammy Faye Baker pegging Jim as the cover.

I remember Spinal Tap saying Tipper Gore's name needed to have a warning label: "warning, contains Gore"
