How did "Acclaimed Artist that you just can't get" turn into a Frank Sinatra lovefest?

I mean, we're talking about blind spots here and I'm totally willing to admit this is one for me (and like I was saying, it's not a stylistic thing because generally I love the style).

Movies, record label, overly enthusiastic liner notes aside, what I'm talking about is his singing, which to me sounds bored and lazy. I've tried to give a few of the particularly acclaimed albums like In The Wee Small Hours a chance but the singing is the problem.

Some questions have no answers; this is not one of those questions.

More like splashed in the face by a glass full of gimlet - I don't wanna break my sax, dawg! Er, cat.

If you recall, you've been previously labeled Cornish Ginger. That shit is permanent.

it is slightly jarring how much Sinatra cares about the music, much more than one might have thought.

The guy never sang a song that wasn't already a hit.

I hope you're trying to be funny or something, cuz this ain't even remotely true.

You can add me to the "better in the '60s" column.
The dud-to-great ratio is higher, but the phrasing and vocal richness are much superior to his earlier stuff, IMHO. But the only vocals of Frank's I might describe as "lazy" are his earliest Columbia sides in Bing Crosby mode. But we've had this argument before, nate -- that whole Dino-lovin' thing will never make any sense to me.

I think he relates to Dino on a clear liquor level.

I'd agree. To pick a nit I'm not sure he's acclaimed as an artist as much as a performer or for sheer sales. But close enough.

I'd take a step further and include all of Motown. MJ's the best example of the slick but kinda dull stuff that I hear when I listen to Motown.

Very little on Motown has ever caught my ear the same way pretty much anything on Stax or Atlantic does. Motown wanted to capture a white audience and they did just that but in the process they knocked too many rough edges off for me.

Motown is one of the few labels I blow right past when digging thru records as I've yet to hear anything that make's me want more.

When I said it was a blind spot, I in no way meant to indicate the blindness came from drinking too much.
