Music news, rumors, what you're listening to, how you're listening to it and whether it's all on the up-and-up.

43 years ago today ...

The small plane carrying Otis Redding and five members of The Bar-Kays crashed into Lake Monona, killing the King of Soul and all but one of the band members, Ben Cauley.

A moment of silence as you read this, please. The gift this man left the world cannot be overstated. His catalog of work remains some of the most poignant, relevant and heart-wrenching music ever set to record, however you care to classify it.

You are missed, Otis. You are remembered. There will never be another of your caliber.

I guess I never realized anyone survived the crash. Google Ben Cauley to read about his account of the crash.

Hey Zuess.

There doesn't seem to be any logical explanation why he survived.

I was in the Lakeshore Dorms (LaFollette House, Adams Hall) when Otis' plane went down. WIBA-AM (the local top 40 station) reported on it. A dorm mate and long time friend had tickets to the show, but cashed them in after the crash. He still regrets that he didn't keep them.
