I just picked up Ra Ra Riot's The Rhumb Line based on multiple recommendations, and I can definitely say it is everything it is cut out to be.

In my continuing thesis that the the rock is dead crowd oughta shut their word holes allow my to present exhibits A-I all released in 2009 which have been rocking my world:

Neko Case-Middle Cyclone
The Marked Men-Ghosts
The Ergs-Hindsight Is 20/20 My Friend
The Black Lips-200 Million Thousand
Luna Mortis-Absence
The Von Ehrics-Loaded
The Riverboat Gamblers-Underneath The Owl
Gay Witch Abortion-Maverick

and most of all this week Mastodon-Crack The Skye which is the mystical psychedelic metal breakthru album that is going to propel that band to the next level, so much better than the last record, Blood Mountain

It is a damn fine album. I've heard it more than anybody else on the planet, and I still don't get sick of it.

I'm currently digging through literally 42 volumes of late 60s/early 70s bubblegum pop. It is giving me cavities.

The glockenspiel playing is KICK ASS on that record.

Where does one get 42 volumes of that bubblegum pop, sir?

Shhhh. It is secret.

The sound quality is kinda poor through most of it, and there is tons of filler, but still plenty of great songs strewn throughout, if that's your kinda thing. Now at least I know which 45s to shop for and which ones to ignore.

This is some very good shit and I have been listening to it since early last Fall on a loop, although it makes me very homesick. My bro and pops live on the North Shore and The Rhumb Line bar is one town away in Gloucester.

Apparently some RRR and Vamp Weekend peeps are collaborating on a record:

Should be great.

Lately I've been listening to the MGMT, the last two Afghan Whigs records (Black Love and 1965), Memory Motel by the Stones, Black Keys latest and previous, both Cold War Kids, the Knux, and the Steinski collection.

Bad Brains - Fearless Vampire Killers

Finally got this first one, the ROIR cassette tape (weirdly, I got it on vinyl). What a monumental debut.
