Desired local reunions

Postby charliedon'tsurf » Mon Feb 19, 2007 3:58 pm

What broke up local bands would you most like to see reunite for a show?

For bands from Madison I would have to go with Ex Action Figures and Wheelie King. Two great bands I did not get to see enough because I was not living in Madison when they were most active. I would have added Mad Trucker Gone Mad as well if they had not reunited last year.

For outside of Madison I would pick Depo Provera who opened at least one out of four punk shows in Green Bay back in the ABC Boxing/Kutska's Hall/VFW days and featured Norb of Boris the Sprinkler on lead vocals. My other one would be Three Liter Hit from Eau Claire whose musical style and attack may as well come from an obscene Martian carnival. Unfortunately I never, ever got to see TLH and could not make it to their reunion show at the Anchor Inn back in 2002.

Who would you like to see practice up and take to the stage one final time?

Ed Temple! Sort of from Madison, sort of not. And I want the reunion to be from the "Ben's not crazy" era. I'd be happy just to have "Cobalt Skin" on CD, even.

The Paragraphs

The Beckys

The Haints

and with the Ex-Action Figures, I think we need to specify which line-up. The original line-up was a rock classic, but the NYC line-up that came through a year or so after the break-up was a bit pale in comparison...

We Milwaukeeans got a Christmas present in December courtesy Alligator Gun, Compound Red, and Loomis, who all practiced up and gave us an amazing reunion show.

As for Madison bands? I'd dig seeing Pound, WI again.

Well since you think we need to specify, of course the Madison based one that was an organic rock band rather than a songwriter picking hired guns to back him up. I only saw the old line-up anyway and they were amazing the two shows I caught.

My favorite recorded output from Ex Action Figures are their couple 7"s rather than the two full length albums. In fact I really should put them on the turntable tonight when I get home from work.

You could see the next best thing still!

Me, I'd like to see the Ticks just one more time.

The Magnolias play once or twice a year, have a recent cd, played SXSW last year

The Replacements were supposed to reunite for Soul Asylum bass player's benefit, but didn't, but Tommy Stinson did tour as Soul Asylum's bass player last tour after the original's death.

that magnolias album is unreleased demos and such, not exactly new...
paul and tommy actually played live together at the premier of open season...

still love to see those bands really get back together and tour. together would be cool.

During the 90's Eau Claire had a bevy of interesting bands for young me to enjoy, and 3 Liter Hit was one of the best. Wish I had those old tapes and 7"'s....

Word has it that Jeff Jagielo will be taking Squarewave to a Madison stage in March. Two Ivory Library members, and they've got thatsound.
