Since I'm a highly astute fan of jazz there'd be no question - I'd have to go see Bruce. 8)

We have put Bruce and Greg Brown on the guestlist for Jim James and the Damn Shames at the Harmony tonight. Although I am pretty sure that they could pop for the $6. No whiners.

True story: I once looked through Greg Brown's checkbook. There was about $6,000 in the account. This was in the early 1990s. One of the guys in my band at the time was an old pal of Greg's wife (now ex-wife) Sarah, and we used to stay at their house whenever we played in Iowa City. Greg usually wasn't there; I think I only met him maybe once. I used to always wake up a lot earlier than anybody else, and one time I was just kind of snooping around the living room while everyobdy else was still snoozing. And there was the checkbook sitting open on a desk. So I snooped. Yes, I'm an asshole, I'll stipulate to that. Anyway, he can probably afford the $6, unless he took a financial beating when he dumped Sarah several years ago.

well despite the isthmus twat's idiotic post show analysis (wouldn't really call it a review), the bruce show was awesome.
for whatever reason, milwaukee and madison got the two best setlists of the tour.

Well, however good the setlist was (yeah, Incident, Growin' Up, Blinded by the Light and Lost in the Flood are definite standouts) I don't think I made a mistake going to see Sonny.

And for those of you going here thinking Springsteen was facing off against Hank. He will be here on November 1st at the Barrymore.

I enjoyed Bruce but I'm not sure I'd call it a great setlist. An acoustic performance without "Johnny 99", "Atlantic City", "Reason to Belive", or "State Trooper" just seemed strange to me. Come to think of it did he play anything of Nebraska?

he did play reason to believe. he also played nebraska, which if memory serves, is the title cut from nebraska.

he played state trooper and johnny 99 the night before, in chicago.

he's got three solo acoustic albums, four if you count his first album, and he drew from all of them in madison.

i guess i should have qualified it and said it was a great setlist for serious springsteen fans. someone whose knowledge and appreciation starts with born to run and ends with born in the usa would definitely have been disappointed.

Can't we all just finally admit that Springsteen isn't that great? It's ok if he's not a delicate geeeeeenius. He's made some fine music, but he's not the second coming of Antigone.
