Is there a place with fancy grilled cheeses?

Where are you eating and what do you think? What's opening, closing, succeeding, failing?

Is there a place with fancy grilled cheeses?

Postby zeropoint » Fri Mar 21, 2014 9:58 pm

Anybody know of a place that serves snooty grilled cheese sandwiches? The best I know of is the Italian one at Monty's--I like the one at the Weary but it's not that fancy. Where else should I try? And I'm veg, so no bacon funny business.

It's been a while so you'd have to call these places to see if they still serve 'em this way:

Brocach
Whole wheat bread, roasted red pepper, avocado slices and sharp Irish cheddar. Wash down with a nice beer.

The Harmony
Gonnella bread, slice of onion (raw or cooked), big slice of tomato, thick slice of cheese. Wash down with a nice beer. Not as fancy, but damn satisfying!

I doubt the Harmony has changed since the new owner promised not to, but Brocach has revamped its menu.

Roast has a swiss and cheddar with bacon, tomato and pesto on 7-grain bread, $9. I haven't tried it yet but it's on my list -- someday when the appetite, the funds and the mealtime align...

ETA: Oops -- sorry about the bacon funny business. I'm sure they'd leave that off if you ask. Sounds like overkill anyway, which is why I went for the California Avocado the last time I was there.

Lazy Jane's. Havarti with avocado, red onion, and tomato on sourdough bread. It's quite yummy.

Vintage has a very un-fancy (and unhealthy) one...

GRILLED CHEESE CHEESEBURGER - $15.00
For the more adventurous stomachs... Full sized pattie topped with ham, deep fried onions and double cheese, all nestled in between TWO grilled cheese sandwiches in place of a standard bun......oh yes we did!
