Grampa gives up his guns, surrenders to pizza

Where are you eating and what do you think? What's opening, closing, succeeding, failing?

Grampa gives up his guns, surrenders to pizza

Postby TheBookPolice » Fri Apr 05, 2013 9:33 am

aka The Gun and Pizza Thread.

http://www.cityofmadison.com/council/di ... og/?Id=888

Please join me for a neighborhood meeting where we will discuss Gilbert Altschul's proposal to convert Grampa's Gun Shop, 1374 Williamson Street, into Grampa's Pizzeria. Mr. Altschul has applied for a Class B Beer/Class C Wine license to sell beer and wine at the restaurant. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback.

Will Obama be coming for our pizza now, then?

He'll have to pry it from my warm, greasy hands.

They should offer a BOGO special and call it the Second Slice Amendment.

Pizzas can hold no more than 10 toppings.

And if you can conceal a pizza, you maybe shouldn't be eating a pizza..

I'm curious about the logic behind spending tall cash to create a food service space in that location when there is an existing pizza location available two blocks away.

I wish someone would open a Chicago-style dog & beef stand there.

I stopped to get a number from the window of the former Batch Bakery site, it only has an email address...I hate that, enough to not contact them...But we are looking for a second location for Diggitys Chicago-Style dogs and beefs...

Hopefully it will be the first in a franchise chain of "Grandpa's Pizzeria and Gun Shops" across the country. As far as I'm concerned you can never have too many pizzerias or gun shops. :D

If this was NYC I'd be concerned: Bloomberg thinks it is okay to put astronomical infringements on your constitutional rights, and also gastronomical infringements.

Big gulp anyone?

You can meet the new grampa here.
One of Willy Street’s longtime artisans has quietly retired as Larry Gleasman recently closed his gunsmithing business, Grampa’s Gun Shop at 1374 Williamson Street, after 30 years. Gilbert Altschul, who grew up just a few blocks away, plans to re-invigorate the location and open Grampa’s Pizzeria honoring his own grandfather, using the elder’s pizza recipe that delighted his family for years.

Meh. I'll give them a year. After seeing how quickly S2 pizza went down with their "fancier" pizza menu, I don't see how this place can survive. It's also sort of an odd menu and I wonder if they'll add items as they go along. I'm curious as to the size of the pizza as well.

Oh, and $6 for an ice cream cookie sandwich? Is that the going rate for those?

Yes, I believe that's close to what I paid at Chocolate Shoppe last time I got one, but it was the size of a CD and about 3" thick. So, maybe it's like this and not one of those Good Humor-types?

I really don't eat sweets so I didn't know. Crap, I can get an entire lunch at a food cart for that price. I'm glad I don't really like ice cream.

In my defense, I took it home, threw it in the freezer and ate it in three sittings, so it was really more like 3 ice cream sandwiches at $2 each :D
