Alterra's comin'

Where are you eating and what do you think? What's opening, closing, succeeding, failing?

Alterra's comin'

Postby jjoyce » Tue Jan 29, 2013 12:02 pm

http://madisoncommons.org/?q=content%2F ... dison-cafe

They sort of buried the lead there: The cafe will be serving beer from One Barrel, making it a viable late afternoon/after work spot, something Ancora has never been able to figure out.

I welcome the coffee wars to my neighborhood. I've been a loyal Ancora customer, but largely because the alternative for a fast cup is Starbucks. I prefer Marigold and, occasionally, Barriques when I want a latte prepared with some care.

It would be great if Just Coffee opened a cafe somewhere near here.

I've been wondering why they haven't opened one here. I realize we have a gazillion coffee places, but I always go to Alterra with friends when I am visiting MKE. They have great, locally purchased food and some stellar coffee.

You want burying the lede: Robin snuck it in all the way down in the last main graf of his January 18th Beer Here column.

Madison Commons pulls off what the Journal Sentinel, MadTable, Wisconsin Foodie, and the State Journal couldn't: generating TDPF chatter. Who'da thunk?

The Zuzu Cafe has been serving Alterra coffee for years. They also sell several varieties of whole bean and ground Alterra.

It will be nice to have a coffee shop on that side of the Capitol where baristas don't shoot you a nasty look for wanting a coffee after 4:30 PM. I love Ancora on King St but the hours are ridiculous.

A friend of mine in the business (and by the business, I mean the industry) tells me that Alterra is a Mars company. As in Snickers.

They have a distribution deal with Mars but are still owned and operated by the brothers who started the company.

I'm looking forward to their entry into the Madison cafe scene. They crank out consistently incredible coffee.

Doesn't Barrique's serve Alterra coffee, too? So the coffee is not unknown around here, though an Alterra coffeeshop will be something new.

I think Barrique's switched to something else.

Mother Fool's brews Alterra and sells whole bean.
