Tory Miller drinks Miller Lite?

Where are you eating and what do you think? What's opening, closing, succeeding, failing?

Tory Miller drinks Miller Lite?

Postby kulgar » Tue Sep 28, 2010 12:55 pm

This is a bit gossipy but...Tory Miller has been seen at the bar in Graze with a Miller Lite in his hand.

Given that this chef is renowned for sourcing locally and, while this beer is produced in Milwaukee, it still is part of what was formerly called South African Brewing and is based in London. You'd think he could find a more "local" beer to drink given the wealth of highly regarded options.

This chef also produces exquisite meals and this is the taste he likes? I know that Baron Rothschild said you can't drink Grand Crus for every meal, vin de table is fine for most occasions, but Miller Lite?

Maybe he just likes the branding or is working on a promotional gig.

Or maybe he just likes to drink a shitty beer now and then. A lot of folks do.

Hey, at least he wasn't drinking a big fruity red wine.

I don't see much qualitative difference between a big fruity red wine and the thin watery yellow beer. Maybe he eats Ritz crackers, too. He can have shitty taste in beer and still make good food. I just hope this revelation doesn't interfere with the constant attention and admiration he gets from the rabid foodie brigade.

If a beer had my last name in it, I'd probably drink it too.

Maybe he developed a taste for it when he was young. Like sometimes I eat Doritos.

Business decisions (i.e., local sourcing) and personal decisions are sometimes different. Big deal.

And also, Doritos are good.

My wife calls Doritos "dirty toes".
I like 'em, Doritos that is.

Jesus, he's a hard working man. Let him a have a freakin beer in peace.

That's part of being self-made- he can drink whatever the heck he wants, unlike anyone hired by Miller or Coke or Pepsi.

Do all high end chefs drink Miller Lite?

Postby kulgar » Mon Oct 18, 2010 11:21 am

I heard a rumor that Shinji Muramoto who is opening 43 North this week, the high end restaurant just down King St from L'Etoile, is also reported to drink Miller Lite! Am I missing something, these two have tremendous pallets. Maybe I'll have to give it a try again.

My wife pefers the manliest fruit flavored diet lager, Bud Lite Lime, but that's definitely undrinkable.

Well, they do have a lot of stuff to move around.

(I didn't think Muramoto was directly involved in 43 North; isn't Justin Carlisle the principal?)

Pretty sure Mr. Muramoto was involved. I witnessed him interviewing wait staff for the new place. I would guess he's a silent partner or similar.

too many years in the lumber yard

Yeah, palate, not pallet, my bad. I have to quit drinking in the morning....or maybe just drink Miller Lite.

Justin appears to be the executive chef, the guy beavering away in the kitchen. My guess is that the restaurant is primarily Justin's with some oversight by Muramoto.
