Re: Carrier lays off workers, moves jobs to Mexico

Looks like about half of the layoffs at Carrier will happen in July, and the other half ... December 22.

Ouch. Lose your job three days before Christmas?

Jupiter!

Really cool photos here: These new images of Jupiter show its clouds in stunning detail What is up with the evenly spaced white dots around the equator? They look like holes in a belt or something. https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/8584715/PJ06_portrait005_full_v2__2_.png

Re: Observations on Trump Administration

One more note on the implausible "Syria" claims: The NYT published them. The WaPo didn't. It turns out that the same three anonymous sources who gave the "Syria" quote to the NYT also contacted the WP writers. The three of them were all apparently close associates of Kushner. The...

Re: This is what a National Security Adviser Should look like

Dunno why I never noticed before that we had two National Security Advisors who were black women named "Rice". I would really like to be able to not loathe Condoleezza Rice. She is smart, thoughtful, accomplished. She's a classically trained pianist, and very good for an amateur (she playe...

Re: The world is soon to be more boring...

Do we? Is Spicer still around?

I have actually been feeling kinda sorry for Spicer lately. He seems to be taking a lot of blame for stuff that's not his fault. His boss doesn't seem to appreciate him. And that thing at the Vatican just seemed heartless.

Re: Observations on Trump Administration

Yeah, buried in the middle of that too-long comment I noted that the "Syria" explanation makes no sense. I don't think there is any non-scandalous explanation that does make sense. The only thing that I can think of that would exonerate them would be if it didn't actually happen at all. Bu...

The world is soon to be more boring...

Whoah: White House Considering Plan to Have Legal Team Vet Trump’s Tweets Headline kinda says it all, but a few more details are here . It seems like a smart move but it would make life a little less interesting for all of us. Also seems unlikely that POTUS would agree to go along with this.

"This is what a National Security Adviser Should look like" So a National Security Advisor should look like an old white guy? Here are a couple of other National Security Advisors: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7e/Susan_Rice%2C_official_State_Dept_photo_portrait%2C_2009....

Re: Observations on Trump Administration

I am trying to think of any non-scandalous reason why Jared Kushner would want to use the Russians' own clandestine communications system for secret discussions with someone in Russia. The US government has its own secure communications systems. The only reason to use the Russian system would be to ...

Re: Flynn K'OED by Russia Connection; Trump Administration in Disarray

Besides, a crime, or suspected crime in needed to appoint a special prosecutor. Even if what the dems are saying is true, there is no crime to investigate. No laws have been broken. After 1999 the term is "special counsel" not "special prosecutor." And in case you haven't notice...

Re: Observations on Trump Administration

It's not "treason" because we're not at war with Russia. But it's astounding nonetheless. Assuming this story is correct, it looks like Kushner is in big trouble. Match this up with the reports that he was the motivating force behind Trump's decision to fire Comey, and it sure suggests tha...

Re: Observations on Trump Administration

Two new revelations in today's late-afternoon bombshell news hour (that hour seems to be becoming a tradition under Trump): Russian ambassador told Moscow that Kushner wanted secret communications channel with Kremlin Jared Kushner and Russia’s ambassador to Washington discussed the possibility of s...
