Re: Boston's and Tilted Kilt both closed!?

I know some bartenders who had experience working at the Tilted Kilt and the consensus was ridiculously poor management--apparently buying their booze and some food items from Woodmans because they couldn't get credit from their vendors and were on a cash only basis with them. As far as Boston's tha...

Re: The Worst Bar n Madison

Bourbon Street Grille...although it's in Monona...the place was a lot more fun when it was the Muskie Lounge..now it's poor service, bad food and outside it smells of the sewage pumping station right next door when the wind blows at you! The Come Back Inn has been on a steady decline since the last ...

Re: Logan's Extensive Beer Selection

Walk on down to Brickhouse BBQ for a pretty impressive tap selection of Midwest microbrews...all the fun without the beer snobbery of the trendy "gastropub"...I really hate that word!

Re: Coveted pads

Narco and I were probably at a couple of the same parties at the church..a friend of mine lived there in the 90s right when it was converted and we had LOTS of A-bars there--they actually turned the baptismal 'thingy' (sorry..the word escapes me...fount?) into a pseudo-hot tube! and WOW...they reall...

Re: New gastropub planned for Square - Coopers Tavern

Opps..sorry about my original post regarding the beer. I should have been more specific--what I wanted off the list and what they had were two different things. I figured that was just due to a rushed opening but when I went back yesterday with another group it was the same problem--they didn't have...

Re: New gastropub planned for Square - Coopers Tavern

We stopped in for a late lunch Thursday..the decor is nice, lots of staff, but the food and beverage(beer!) selections was nothing to get real excited about. I had the Reuben because of the nice review it received and because I really enjoy a good Reuben. It was OK..but I have had better at Dexter's...

Re: New gastropub planned for Square - Coopers Tavern

The numbers really surprised me, too. I know the economy is bad...but over a 1000 applicants for a place with a capacity of 79. Also that they hired 45 people...there is going to be a lot of competition among the staff for some shifts! Any word on the hours of operations..I heard they may close by 1...

Re: New gastropub planned for Square - Coopers Tavern

The last paragraph of The Daily Page article says "with staff from the Old Fashioned" led me to think its more than a few of the 45 hired... perhaps my use of the word 'raided' was poor or led to some confusion, BookPolice, sorry.

Re: New gastropub planned for Square - Coopers Tavern

Just read the articles about Coopers on The Daily Page and on Madison.com...what really caught my eye was that it sounds from TDP article that they raided The Old Fashioned for staff--but that happens all the time in the food and beverage industry and then over on Madison.com they said over 1000 peo...

Re: alternative to Woodman's?

Woodman's provides a health care benefit for their employees...my employer doesn't provide anything...I would just be happy with some decent health insurance but you can't make everybody happy on here...always something to bitch about

Re: alternative to Woodman's?

Cub's on the Eastside has always been a nightmare for me. The store layout is poor, the produce/meat depsrtment seem to be less in quality than Woodman's and the store just always seems dirty. Hy-Vee is great in prices when you shop the specials and the big box stores can't beat the meat counter, pr...

Not only was Kelly a very attractive man..he was a nice guy who was very approachable whenever he was around downtown on his off time. I would usually see him by the Memorial Union reading, playing volleyball or biking--loved talking about his bikes! Charlie Shortino seems like an OK guy and he is f...

Re: How are the streets?

I think when you read the past posts the vast majority of the people are applauding the effort of the actual road crews who were out doing the work... the criticism is aimed at the management level who had to make some decisions and are now experiencing the wrath of irrate drivers. I was not too imp...
