Re: Jose

A category 1 or even a tropical storm can do a LOT of damage. Depends on the rainfall. I still remember Hurricane Agnes. I was in NYC at the time, and it was a tropical storm by the time it hit. My brother had a flight to Mexico City that day, which was delayed a few hours, but not canceled. The win...

Re: Federal Judge Deals cAGW a Major Blow

The title is misleading.

The federal judge did not and cannot rule on the merits of global warming.

So cAGW was not dealt a Major Blow. The earth is still getting warmer, the seas are still rising, the glaciers are still melting.

Re: Martin Shkreli: Something wrong in America?

If, on the other hand, he started a new thread for every band he reviewed, people might get annoyed with him. Wait . . . this is a fantastic idea! What say you all? I could beat fflambeau at his own game! Just imagine opening TDPF and seeing nothing but my name all the way down the right side of th...

Re: Martin Shkreli: Something wrong in America?

No one is saying ff shouldn't post, but starting a new thread every time s/he reads an article is really, really annoying and is quite the overkill. And many, many, people have asked him/her not to do this. There is already a thread for the pharma bro. In fact, for most of the threads ff starts, the...

Word count of your post: 210 Word count of my post: 212 Difference being, of course, she actually had something worthwhile to say and share. You, on the other hand, were just being an asshole and a bully. What happened that made you into such a miserable piece of shit? Don't recall you always being...

Re: Yale’s Calhoun College becomes Grace Hopper College.

We still have some COBOL where I work. No more FORTRAN anymore, which I programmed in back in the day. Check out some APL if you want a real trip. I used APL back in the late 1970s. Great for matrix manipulations, but not a modern programming language. Some of the more widely used scientific progra...

Re: Observations on Trump Administration

I remember reading a self-help book written in the 50s or perhaps the 60s. It recommended that if one is a Democrat, that one make friends with Republicans to expand one's ways of thinking, or if one is a Republican one make friends with Democrats. do u remember which book that was? No, I don't. I ...

Re: Observations on Trump Administration

The Southern Poverty Law Center is supposed to be monitoring hate groups: instead it has become one . Carol M. Swain wrote in the WSJ "I paid a professional price when the group attacked me in 2009. Now I wear its mud as a badge of honor." The SPLC’s retaliation was vicious and effective....

Re: Tony Evers for governor

After the explanatory post, it makes SOME sense. However, just about any state needs a very strong educational system for economic growth. The Republicans have been gutting our educational system from pre-K up to graduate level programs at the UW campuses. This is killing the goose laying the golden...

Re: What if Man-Made Climate Change is Real?

I think the question has to be what to do now, not how do we punish (childish concept) the liars. Tobacco/climate change is a poor comparison for a variety of reasons. But why do we tolerate lying to the public when the stakes are so high? Does propaganda rise to the level of free speech even when ...

Re: Tony Evers for governor

Evers just disqualified himself for the job with his video announcing his candidacy. He claimed the solution to building our economy was education??!?? Hasn't he ever heard of what is known here as the "brain drain"? The people of Wisconsin have invested billions in education for children...

Re: What if Man-Made Climate Change is Real?

The lesson of Harvey/Irma has already been lost on much of the country. One response I got on a different forum was "Climates change, that's what they do" The deniers, on this forum and elsewhere are saying two things often simultaneously: 1. It isn't getting warmer (completely false) 2. Y...
