Re: Officer won't face criminal liability in shooting death

NBC15 is reporting: According to a source, Madison Police Chief Noble Wray is asking for Officer Stephen Heimsness to be fired. That's after an internal investigation revealed Heimsness often sent inappropriate messages to other officers with squad car computers. Those messages were sent before the ...

I think Barrique's switched to something else.

Mother Fool's brews Alterra and sells whole bean.

Re: Coffee Makers

I use a french press at home. It is easy to control the brew by adjusting the grind or time or both. Also, as mentioned above, very easy to keep clean.

There was a DOJ review included with the report released by the MPD earlier this month.

Thanks.

Re: Alterra's comin'

A friend of mine in the business (and by the business, I mean the industry) tells me that Alterra is a Mars company. As in Snickers. They have a distribution deal with Mars but are still owned and operated by the brothers who started the company. I'm looking forward to their entry into the Madison ...

Re: Free "upgrade" from paper ballots to touch screen

A few more thoughts on op-scan machines... In Wisconsin, if there is a recount, the original machine must be used and the ballots are not allowed to be hand counted to confirm the machine. If the machine counts the ballots the same each time it is considered accurate. So, if the proprietary code (wh...

Re: Free "upgrade" from paper ballots to touch screen

First step would be to count ballots publicly at the polling place as soon as voting ends. Compare the number of ballots to the poll books. Places that do this then remove overvotes by random drawing. In this system optical scan or machine with a voter verified printout works fine. One of the proble...

Re: Free "upgrade" from paper ballots to touch screen

How is it better since both systems can be rigged? Different techniques are used depending on the type of equipment and whether the vote totals need to go up or down to get the desired result. In areas of Ohio where Kerry was expected to win, it was easier in most cases to hack optical scan polling ...

Re: Free "upgrade" from paper ballots to touch screen

The optical scan method used in Madison seems the best. Quick, easy and accurate tabulations, all with paper backup. Richard Hayes Phillips documents a number of ways that optical scan systems were manipulated in the Ohio 2004 election in his book, "Witness To A Crime." Paper backups don'...

Re: History of Sears Building on Fordem Avenue

If you are talking about 2120 Fordem Avenue, it used to be Demco Library Supplies, from 1950 to the late 80's. The Demco building's still there. It's some sort of family center now. That building (2120) was razed and replaced in 2003 or 04. The Sears property is 2102 and is going to be the new DAIS...
