Re: YumYum Fest 2014

There are water fountains all around the square so as far as Taste of Madison goes it's not hard to find some. It was not clear to me what would happen if I left YumYum to cross the street for the water fountain there and tried to come back, since they took our tickets and required a ticket to enter...

Re: YumYum Fest 2014

Thanks for explaining the water situation, TBP. I found it to be a big flaw in the event, not realizing it was due to a scheduling conflict. I went with a group and everyone enjoyed it. Definitely what Taste of Madison should be IMO. It was nice seeing the chefs from each restaurant working the line...

Re: Turkey Brining fact or fiction?

I think it's fairly clear that brining "works" -- in that, it increases moisture in the final product. Whether it results in tasty bird is another matter. We tend to put a lot of flavorings on our bird anyway so it works out fine, but if you just eat the brined bird plain, it might taste a...

Re: Amending the Constitution

In the article linked by green union terrace chair, the only amendment I strongly support is the one guaranteeing a right to vote. Perhaps I don't understand some legal issue there, but it seems like a no-brainer to me.

Re: Costco > Wal-Mart

Wouldn't it make more sense to compare Costco employees to Sam's Club employees? I was thinking of Sam's club when I wrote what I did. I guess I consider the two one in the same although Sam's club is even grosser than Walmart if that's possible. I think it's the implied grossness of Sam's Club; it...

Re: How do you stay so fit?

A calorie is a calorie, except that your body can be tricked more easily with certain calories. 20 calories of greens is a lot more filling than 20 calories of cookies. It's hard to lose weight if you are hungry constantly. The elliptical as most people use it is overrated. Slowly slogging at it and...

Also, the whole Hepatitis A thing makes me question the produce superiority, which I previously believed pretty strongly.

Re: iPhone 4S vs. iPhone 5: Upgrade or not?

I have a 4S. If I were eligible I'm still not sure I would upgrade. 1) The new form factor means most apps will get clipped for a while. It will take a while for all apps to be updated and would make for a less than optimal experience until then. 2) The new plug means that at least some of my existi...

Re: "The institutions of this country favor the rich"

People don't get rich in a void. It's not surprising that someone who got rich in our country using our country's policies to their advantage could also increase their wealth in the same manner.

Yes, as long as you recognize the potential issue (which the principal did, and the teacher did not, apparently).

Re: Peanut Butter Perturbs Principled Progressive Principal

Seems accurate to me. If 50% of your students are hispanic and almost 75% minority in general, there's a good chance that many students don't have PB&J deeply embedded in their culture and wouldn't understand it well as an example. If your school year is full of such small misunderstandings then...

The first issue of Lucky Peach has some really interesting suggested uses for instant ramen. I've been wanting to try the crusted skatewing recipe.

We tried it last night based on the recommendations here. Excellent food and service! Thanks for the recommendation. The server had a really charismatic voice. He could have talked us into ordering chalk. Fortunately everything we ordered was either good or excellent even when he was not hypnotizing...
