Re: Staying Safe in an Unsafe World

Live most places in this country, don't get involved in crime, don't hang out with people who solve problems with handguns, and you're more than likely fine. Houston, Phoenix, Atlanta, Tulsa, New Orleans, Milwaukee, Madison, rural South Dakota (outlier), I have lived in all of these places and never...

Re: Canada's majestic natural wonders

Was in Nova Scotia a month or so ago, and the 'Scotians I spoke with find our political situation highly entertaining (at least until it affects them). My BnB host also outlined exactly what it takes to maintain a "hospitality industry license" in Canada that allows you to live there most ...

Re: Totally unofficial Presidential Debate Thread

Anyone else think that Howard Dean, who only said "Blow?" meant, like "blow your damn nose, that sound is disgusting." That's what I thought he meant, or at least, it's what I was thinking. My office is full of snifflers and it's nauseating.

Re: Where's the Fire in the Feingold Campaign?

During one of my rare forays into watching network TV in real time, I saw that Ron Johnson's campaign has put out an ad about "partial birth abortion". My reaction - it truly is the mid-nineties again...I haven't heard anyone bring up that old medically weak scare tactic in at least ten ye...

Re: Charlotte, Tulsa

Both men were shot under suspicion of being someone else and an imagined threat. Both were innocent. Both were unarmed. BUT - even if they were guilty of something, even if they were armed (in this country where we care more about access to firearms than access to clean water), they were entitled to...

Re: Where's the Fire in the Feingold Campaign?

It's this purity test/moral high ground posturing that has allowed the development of the Alt-Right, the Tea Party, etc. Democrats, moderates, and the varied parties of sanity and the common good need to stop trying to one up each other, stop playing "smartest guy in the room" long enough ...

Re: Record wheat harvests: in hottest year evah!

So all this excess goes to the countries whose farming practices have been destroyed by climate change, hence "we're not all gonna starve"? Or it will be left to rot in silos and piles until the price goes up? Pretty sure Russia and Canada having a record season is not actually a sign of h...

Re: #HackLivesMatter #SickHillary

1) Mold and pollen levels are off the charts right now. Cleveland is no different. 2) You try speaking in public every day for however long this campaign has been, and see if you have a voice left. My boss routinely loses his voice and coughs like that after every conference - he's not dying. 3) I h...

Re: LSU

Maybe we were showing some sense, as Wisconsinites, for once. I'd imagine a fair portion of Packer attendees have the opportunity to walk, bus or shuttle home following massive overconsumption of crap beer. I'm also making the assumption that the attendees of this game were faced with a drive back t...

Re: Pasqual's on Monroe closed

I wouldn't say it's changed drastically - as pretty much every time I find myself craving tacos in Madison, I end up at Tex Tubbs. Want proper Mexican food? Come to Milwaukee!

Re: BLM protest on John Nolen

Wasn't there, but similar actions have happened in Milwaukee, mostly in the evening (protestors have jobs too!). Food for thought: http://www.rifuture.org/in-defense-of-blocking-the-highway.html http://www.bustle.com/articles/172498-protesters-blocking-traffic-is-a-modern-reminder-of-this-segregatio...

Re: AJ Bombers

Yay! Maybe the suburbanites will stay out there instead of clogging downtown with their terrible driving and insistence on moving in giant packs. (Mostly kidding, revenue and blah blah, but there are at least 20 better places to get a burger in Milwaukee, with far less frat boy vibe).
