Re: My helpful home tips

Thanks, narco! I jumped before getting a response because I couldn't spend ONE MORE SECOND with our damned ribbon-coil almond-bisque stove, ca. 1987. It functioned fine-ish — super accurate oven, go figure, but toward the end it took about 20 minutes to boil a big pot of water. New range is an induc...

Re: Edgewater cancellations

I live where I can hear the occasional East Side Club bands and I don't mind them at all. They stop before it gets really late. If the music the Edge neighbors hear isn't any louder or later than what the East Side Club plays, I can't see why it's a problem. I think history's the problem. I'm guess...

Hmmm, how best to phrase this: DUH.

A few people wondered about user experience, I dug up some user experiences. You want better data, rope it yourself, cowgirl.

Re: Edgewater cancellations

Yeah, sorry, I figured you were being general, just tossed that in as a point of interest. We were surprised at first at no ice machines, but then it made sense. They typically noisy as hell.

Re: Edgewater cancellations

...worse than getting stuck in a room next to an elevator or ice machine, I'm sure. They don't have ice machines, or at least they didn't when we stayed, specifically they didn't want the noise. Most of noise complaints in my search results were HVAC related. We weren't bothered by that, but our no...

Re: Edgewater cancellations

I'm a tripadvisor junkie and currently procrastinating, so I searched Edgewater reviews for "music," "band," "loud," and "noise," and pulled all the relevant comments I found. Stars are the rating the reviewer gave the hotel. Upshot: one in 716 reviewers compl...

Re: Edgewater cancellations

Ha, I just dug up that 6-year-old exchange, too. At the time, she was concerned about music till 11pm. Edgewater concerts ended at 9pm. Earlier bedtime these days, Franny?

Beck Bennet in a dark wig could totally capture the smug smarminess. Smarmy smugness. Smargness?

Re: My helpful home tips

Hey, narco (or anybody), I need a helpful home tip. I've decided that instead of waiting a year or more to do a balls-out kitchen remodel, I'm going to tackle cosmetic updates within our existing footprint right now, including new appliances. So my question is: any downside to putting the new fridge...

Re: Apple Store currently downloading Hilldale update

I walk from UW (comp sci) to the hilldale, or the opposite, area 3-5 times a week... It is a nice form of excercise. Only takes about 50-60 minutes. Enough time for a podcast or two. Good on you! Do you B-cycle back? Or bus? Or — whoa — do you do a 5+-mile round trip in 50-60 minutes? In which case...

Re: Who will stop the rain?

During the 2nd blow last night, stormwater pressure popped a manhole cover in front of our house. It looked like a giant bubbler in the middle of the street. Props to Water Utility engineers... they showed up maybe 10 minutes after I called.
