Re: Is there a place for grits and potato pancakes?

Noticed that Bassett St. Brunch Club has shrimp and grits, or you can get loaded grits as a side.

Re: What am I not getting about Hopslam?

It's a great beer, but a 10% alcohol bottle of beer is something that we only occasionally drink. There are enough high alcohol beers out there to try, that it's hard to keep going back to the same one when you don't drink them often.

4 Beer Styles

Need your help for conversation's sake. What are your top four favorite beer styles (e.g., stout, IPA, saison)/what four styles do you usually gravitate towards?

Re: Surly Coffee Bender Brown Ale

Surly is GREAT. Consistently great beers in an otherwise mediocre microbrew market.

Re: Do You Eat Organic?

Honestly, I don't buy much that is specifically organic. I do try to buy local for about 40% of my food, though (mostly bread, dairy, meat) and that sometimes happens ot be organic. During the summer, it's more with the addition of produce. In the winter, I don't buy much organic or local produce. I...

Re: Blair Street Brew & BBQ

But, after months of following dude on FB, I've formed a picture in my mind about what this guy stands for, and that's going to influence how I feel about his business, fair or not. Ditto. I don't know this guy, and I don't want to. There are a lot of restaurants in town, and this guy's FB posts ar...

Vin Santo...I always forget it's there, so have only dined once. Good eats, reasonable prices ($14-20 for entrees).

Re: Playing for tips

As a non-musician, I've always been a little iritated by non-paying bars. The Mason, though I love it, is one whose policy has always bugged me a bit. I fall on the "it devalues the music" side. In my ideal world, Wednesdays-Saturdays bars can generally count on live music adding a few bod...

Re: Gyros, Burrito, and Ribs

Anyone try Baldwin St. BBQ yet? I think they finally opened last week. Yep. Not impressed. Considering it was a soft opening, I will give them another chance. We ordered pulled pork, rotisserie chicken, and chicken salad. Sides consisted of beans, coleslaw, and potato salad. Nothing I tasted would ...

Re: Craft Beer Week experiences?

We had an incompatible work schedule last week, so only made it to a few non-headline events, which was fine because we avoided crowds. A quick stop at Old Chicago for some Dark Horse beers also yielded some good Sam Adams special releases (though the Double Agent IPL was a loss to the Dark Horse Do...

Re: Isthmus Food Cart Fest

Had a good time, despite the cold, dreary weather. We only skipped two carts...unfortunately one was BJ's Kolaches. They had the longest lines and it wasn't moving fast, and by then, we weren't so hungry. Standouts for me: Caracas Empanadas: Both offerings were superb. So craving another plaintain e...

Re: Predictions on morels?

My source is out this weekend turkey and mushroom hunting, but doesn't expect too much until next week (when he'll go out again). By next weekend (May 18/19) they should be plentiful, but haven't heard much yet. By Mother's Day we should have reports coming in from the weekend mushroomers.

Re: Isthmus Food Cart Fest

I was worried tickets sales might have doubled, so happy with the 750, and more carts. I think the price is really reasonable and have no complaints about that. There's a difference between affordable and reasonable. Something can be reasonably priced (which I seriously think this is, for the amount...
