Re: new bike-car question

Just so you know you're costing him more time then just driving past him. If you want to believe that's being nice so be it. Why not take your own advice and smile and wave as you pass since he's already beat you to the stopping? Or is it only bike riders that need to be gracious when someone stops...

Re: new bike-car question

Sorry... two-lane street, nobody around, old guy with half his wheel in the street looking eager to cross; I'm slowing way down and probably stopping to let him go every time.

I guess if he wants to be angry about that, then it's his problem, not mine.

Re: new bike-car question

I recently stopped and let a bicyclist cross in front of my car. As he rode past, he shouted that I was screwing up traffic. There were no other cars nearby. He struck me as a bitter, angry person. Just accept the wave across and go. Maybe smile and wave. Everybody's an amateur traffic engineer or a...

Re: Ken & Betty's: Yet Another Cheesesteak Hoax?

Had a wicked awesome Philly cheese steak the other day with bologna, a hunk of dill havarti and mismatched slices of wheat and seven-grain grocery store bread. Also: butter.

Felt as Philly as Ron Jaworski!

Re: new bike-car question

Then he starts to yell that I am required to go because I have the right of way. He is not pleasant about this. This is the problem. It doesn't really matter about the rules of the road, who yields to whom at an uncontrolled intersection, etc. You were being accommodating and this guy got all shout...

Re: Reunion Circle Jerk

Replacements: Punk or not punk? I graduated from high school in 1988 and the punk kids at my suburban Minneapolis high school were more likely to represent Husker Du on their jackets than the Replacements. Suicide Commandos were more their scene. I was decidedly NOT punk, but enjoyed the Replacement...

Re: Make Music Madison

That's one of the cool things about MMM: Music in non-traditional venues. Anyone could sign up to host a gig and any musician who wanted to play could use the matching app to find a venue. I love that about the event, that a musician and a business or homeowner could connect to stage a performance. ...

Re: Ken & Betty's: Yet Another Cheesesteak Hoax?

Secondly, you hear Wisconsinites do the same with bratwurst, so don't be getting too self-righteous Joycie. Not this Sconnie. I'll eat the hell out of a Johnsonville same as one from Jacobson's or one from Black Earth. When it comes to brats, I'm a big tent guy. You can say that about barbecue, piz...

Make Music Madison

The mayor is holding a presser on the steps of the City County Building at 11:30 on Thursday to talk about Make Music Madison. Those of us who pay to see local music often have encountered a few weeks out of the year where there's a TON going on and not enough bodies to fill the rooms. You might jok...

Re: Ken & Betty's: Yet Another Cheesesteak Hoax?

The Phillly Cheese Steak argument is among the least interesting ever (also: Chicago Hot Dog, New York bagel, Key Lime pie, San Fran sourdough). The world should just stipulate, for the benefit of any and all Philadelphians who won't shut up about it, that you can't get a legit cheese steak outside ...

My point exactly. This story managed to overshadow the much more significant abortion debate in certain areas yesterday. Seems to me that there were things going on that were worthy of actual outrage.

Re: Erpenbach: not helping

If the governor is making the appointment, then it's a political appointment. Signing a recall petition is a political act. A kid who wants to be the student regent is what we referred to in college as a "gunner." All gunners ought to be aware of the consequences of their actions. I rememb...

The thing about Grohl is, he inspired Bob Mould to make his best record since Sugar's Copper Blue.
