Re: mysteries (or not) of Pinney branch library

I have liked the way Ahrens plays the skeptic, and I think he's done the city a service in that role. But he's really pissed off Eastmorland with the way he didn't open the Olbrich Park beer garden planning to public input earlier in the process, and ignored the input when it came. Similarly, he see...

Re: mysteries (or not) of Pinney branch library

Why do you think Pinney has no plumbing? I've peed in their bathroom many times. It's not elegant but they do have running water. I will be sad if/when they move into their new location farther down Cottage Grove Road, which is nothing but talk at present. The old location is nearer my house, and I ...

Re: The GOP's health care dilemma

Trumpcare II will save money by only providing health care for people who don't need it.

That pretty much sums up all the Republican plans so far.

Re: O'Reilly fired.

What I really meant is that it's funny because Trump can't commit political suicide. He could still, literally, stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody without consequence. Nothing he does, until the Republicans decide it's strategically advantageous, will affect him. I wonder how lo...

Re: House hunting

My grandparents have an old farmhouse with a large MCM addition they had built in the early 60's, and except where there's wood paneling or brick its all-white. I like all-white walls OK myself, and have them in most rooms of my present house. Unfortunately the house in the pictures had not only pa...

Re: House hunting

What would you do once you were in your bomb shelter was a big discussion topic in the cold war era. Would you try and help your neighbors by sharing canned goods, or just shoot them? (Related question, would you put guns in your shelter or would that just attract thieves and set you up for even wor...

Re: House hunting

Ugh. It's a ghost house. You could never get all that paint off.

Al least it has real floors, not black ones. I wonder how they missed that.

Dang flippers.

I love the name Del Mar Drive, though. It even sounds midcentury.

Re: House hunting

I wondered about the trash cans too. Don't most people put them under the sink, or is that hopelessly 1950s? At least they could have moved them for the photo, even if in daily life they like them out where they can get a clean shot from across the room. The south facing hillside behind that block o...

You could start another thread alongside your music one: the quit-smoking chronicle. You get to gripe or brag, and we'll be encouraging and/or strict, as needed.

Go for it. Who wants to end up sick?

Re: 2017 Property Assessments

Ours has gone up 24% since 2009. The CPI has gone up 15% in that time. I thinking it's time to push back. Good luck with that. The CPI has very little to do with housing values in a given neighborhood. Madison is a hot real estate market, so check what comparable houses sold for in your neighborhoo...

Re: House hunting

I can say with considerable confidence I've never used more than two burners at once unless there were two people trying to cook at the same time, which is a situation to be avoided at all costs anyway. They should sell more stoves with just a couple burners -- now that people are losing interest in...

I bet Sno's is on her shoulder blade. It's a peace sign with the words Born to Kill. Not even close, but I like it anyway. My tattoos are >45 years old and look it. I'm always showing them to young girls and telling them this is how all that fine linework is gonna look in 2060. We laugh. Tattoos, l...

Re: Joseph Jakubowski manhunt

He has tattoos, another sign of being troubled. That's an interesting observation there Beav. I have a tattoo. I'd have gone through life not knowing that I was troubled were it not for this gem. Same here. I thought I was doing pretty well, and now I realize I'm not at all. Thanks for the wisdom, ...
